Welcome to part 3 of my Classic Rooms series! I’m thrilled to continue this project and share it with you. I also want to express my gratitude to those of you who have been following along from the beginning. Your kindness and encouragement mean the world to me!
This summer, I’ve been focusing on updating the bedrooms in my home, so it’s only fitting that the next classic room we explore is the bedroom. Considering we spend a third of our lives sleeping, it’s essential to create a space that you truly enjoy. Your bedroom should feel peaceful and serene. Somewhere you actually want to spend time in.
Read further for a step-by-step guide on how to achieve this look. I’ll walk you through each element to help you create a peaceful and timeless bedroom of your own. Heads up! This post might stir up a bit of controversy, so get ready!

The Base
We’ll start with calming gray-blue walls and dark wood floors. HOWEVER, I’m not opposed to wall-to-wall carpet in bedrooms (gasp!). I know, it’s surprising. The key to carpet is choosing something that will last both stylistically and physically for at least a decade. But more on that another time.
Natural Fibers
For your window treatments, choose linen curtains with a blackout lining to keep the early morning sun at bay. If you have wood floors, a jute rug is a must (and don’t forget a rug pad underneath)! Not only are jute rugs a timeless classic, but if you select a high-quality one, it will be durable and long-lasting.
The Bed
I love this bed from Birch Lane. An upholstered option is great in this case, because we will be adding wood and warmth back in with other pieces. The soft, cushioned headboard provides a cozy and inviting feel, perfect for those lazy Sunday mornings or late-night reading sessions. Its neutral fabric complements a variety of color schemes, making it a versatile choice for any classic bedroom design.
Add in the Warmth
Now it’s time to bring warmth back into the room with wood dressers and nightstands. Here’s a potentially controversial opinion: it’s perfectly fine to match your furniture! Yes, you heard that right. While some may argue that it looks tacky, I believe that as long as you don’t go overboard, matching furniture can create a cohesive and elegant look. In our case, since our bed and chair are both covered with white twill fabric, matching wooden pieces will add warmth without overwhelming the room.
I particularly love oak furniture for its timeless appeal. Oak pieces can become heirlooms that your grandchildren will cherish in the future. Whether you choose a set like the Summerville series from Pottery Barn or explore antique stores for unique vintage finds, oak dressers and nightstands will add character and warmth to your classic bedroom.
A Place to Sit
I adore this white slipcovered armchair from Amazon. With its classic rolled arms and easy-to-clean slipcovered cushions, it offers both style and practicality. It’s the perfect spot for reading or casually draping your not-yet-dirty clothes.
Bedding
For a classic bedroom, I recommend starting with a high-quality duvet set. The Land’s End supima cotton duvet cover and shams are an excellent choice. Although I haven’t personally tried them, Annie Meyers-Shyer speaks very highly of them (check out her Instagram page, @thisoakhouse, for a detailed review). What I can personally vouch for is, this duvet insert and these pillows are absolutely top-notch!
Lighting
Here’s where things get interesting. I am all for mixing your lighting! I chose this lantern pendant (an absolute steal!) in black to go with our curtain hardware. Everything else has it’s own character! I love the idea of having his and hers lamps on the nightstands. This glass lamp leans on the feminine side while this Ralph Lauren blue leather lamp is a little has a masculine vibe (an affordable option here). This floor lamp by the chair is minimal but compliments our black hardware perfectly.
Finishing Touches
Finally, the accessories of the room! I absolutely love this original painting, however, this is a great opportunity to find something at your local antique stores! Custom pillow covers from Textilish and these from Wicker and White Co. on Etsy help bring in pattern and color; marrying every color and tone we have in this room! Bring in flowers, candles, and brass picture frames (I have this one and LOVE it!).
There we have it, the classic bedroom! Thank you for joining me on this journey! Your support and encouragement mean the world to me, and I’m thrilled to have you along for this adventure. Creating a serene and timeless bedroom space is so important, and I hope my tips inspire you to craft a room where you can truly unwind and recharge.
